The work of the 1st World Forum on the Evolution of Social Security Systems, which took place from December 1st to 5th in the Brazilian capital, was marked by the active and remarkable participation of the Moroccan delegation.
This delegation, led by the Minister of Employment and Vocational Training, Mr. Jamal Rhmani, and including sector officials and civil society actors, participated in all the plenary sessions and workshops organized in this context and held several meetings with Brazilian political and union actors and representatives of international institutions.
In this context, Mr. Rhmani spoke notably with the Under-Secretary General for Political Affairs at the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, responsible for Africa and the Middle East, Mr. Birajippi Tarago, and with the Brazilian Vice-Minister of Employment, Mr. Roberto dos Santos Silva, about the latest developments in the issue of the Kingdom's territorial integrity and the Moroccan autonomy initiative, as well as ways to promote bilateral relations, particularly in the social field.
Members of the Moroccan delegation also met with representatives of the main political parties and trade unions in Brazil and with representatives of the International Movement on People's Health, who expressed their willingness to organize their next international conference in Morocco.
The Moroccan delegation also participated in the discussions during the plenary sessions and workshops, which focused on the need to modernize social protection systems internationally, increase the number of beneficiaries, particularly among workers in the informal sector, and develop comprehensive social security and protection strategies.
In this regard, the Moroccan delegation advocated the creation, for the MENA region countries, of national social protection councils bringing together all stakeholders, with a view to implementing a regional strategy and enabling the coordination of policies in this area in each state, in addition to the adoption of new laws covering the various aspects of social protection, particularly in the areas of health and employment.
It is also a question of strengthening the means of social dialogue and activating the role of trade unions, noted the Moroccan delegation, emphasizing the successful experience of Morocco in this area, in particular the support provided by the State to sectors affected by the global economic crisis in order to preserve jobs, through the assumption of membership fees in the National Social Security Fund (CNSS).
On this occasion, the Moroccan delegation invited Brazilian political and union actors to visit Morocco, in order to learn more about the Moroccan political and union experience, and to participate in the 1st Arab Conference on Social Dialogue, scheduled for December 14 and 15 in Rabat, in order to present the achievements made in Brazil in this area.
