Working Population: +1.1% in 2005

Text:
The working population aged 15 and over reached 11,140,000 people during the year 2005, an increase of 1.1% compared to 2004 (1.2% in urban areas and 1% in rural areas), indicated the High Commission for Planning.

In a press release received Saturday by the MAP, the High Commission, relying on publications relating to the observed evolution of the situation of the labor market in Morocco in 2005, notes that at the end of this year, the activity rate slightly decreased nationally, falling from 52.6% in 2004 to 52.1% in 2005.

This decline affected both cities and rural areas but was relatively more significant in urban areas, where this rate fell from 45.8% to 45.2% (compared to a decline from 62.0% to 61.7% in rural areas), explains the information note from the High Commission following the publications relating to the observed evolution of the employment situation at the end of each of the four quarters of the year.
