You waited for the twelve strokes of midnight and, like every year, you told yourself that with the arrival of the New Year, it was time to change many things in your daily life, such as: exercising, quitting smoking, finding a better-paying job… resolutions that you will certainly not keep. Once again! What if you started with simple things that you can change, small and even insignificant at first, but which will nevertheless change your daily life.
Let's focus on professional resolutions since we all spend most of our time in our company, so start by making a few changes in your workplace.
Get more organized!
Are you disorganized? Is your office a real mess? Can't find your files anymore? Does it take you a lot of time to find any file, and do you waste a lot of time reviewing your emails, which number in the hundreds or even thousands? It's high time to remedy this, say stop to piles of files and hundreds of emails that you promise yourself every day to file, because this year 2009 will be under the sign of organization! Organize and file all those documents that have been lying around on your desk for months, create folders and subfolders in your email inbox (yes, this function exists, you just had to look closely), so you will have less trouble finding a contact or information. Also, choose an electronic or paper agenda, especially stick to only one, on which you will note all the key dates of this year: management committees, account closures, reports… This way you will be sure not to miss any event this year!
Regain your self-confidence!
Difficult resolution, much easier to formulate than to implement. Take the time this year to set yourself goals, simple goals that will allow you to gain this self-confidence that can sometimes cruelly fail you. Gain confidence in yourself by putting yourself forward more often, expose yourself a little more. You can occasionally present a report, give your opinion at a meeting, or even express your opinion to your employer on the company's orientations. The slightest intervention, however insignificant it may seem to you, will allow you to come out of your shell and assert yourself a little more as a full member of the team. Make a list of your strengths and weaknesses, the former will serve to reassure you and the latter will be the ones you will have to improve.
Get closer to your colleagues!
It's time for you to get closer to and get to know better the people you work with every day, the result can only be more favorable on your work environment, your work itself and especially your mood! Take the time to have a coffee with your colleagues, to chat with them! A simple relationship, even if it's cordial, will allow you to relax and then be much more comfortable with them during strict professional relationships.
All these little tips can only make you better at your job because the goal of all these annual resolutions is to improve yourself again and again!
