Signing of Two Tunisian-French Cooperation Agreements in ICT

TUNIS (TAP) - Tunisia and France signed an agreement on Monday for cooperation in implementing the French program "Passport for the Digital Economy" in Tunisia, as well as a "joint declaration on cooperation in the field of open-source software."

The agreement and the joint declaration were signed during a meeting held at the El Ghazela technology park, between Mr. Adel Gaâloul, Secretary of State in charge of technology, and Eric Besson, French Minister in charge of Industry, Energy and the Digital Economy.

The "passport for the digital economy" program, launched in 2006 in France, includes the introduction of information and communication technologies in SMEs. France has allocated 30,000 euros for the implementation of this program in Tunisia.

Under the "joint declaration," assistance will be provided to the Tunisian Association of Professionals in the field of open-source software and the French Federation of the Open-Source Software Industry, for the organization of joint events, support and skills training, as well as the exchange of expertise and experience and the implementation of joint projects in this field.

The French Minister stated that the digital economy offers Tunisia the opportunity to integrate graduates from higher education into the job market, especially in the interior regions of the country, indicating that Tunisia has the skills and human resources to become "a hub for the digital economy in the Euro-Mediterranean area."

For his part, Mr. Adel Gaâloul noted that the Tunisian approach in the field of information and communication technologies is based on modernizing basic infrastructures, promoting a business-friendly environment, and developing information systems and administrative services based on ICT.
