The head of government, Ali Larayedh, stated in an interview given Wednesday evening to the TAP agency that he is "perfectly aware" of the precariousness and exclusion suffered by Tunisians in several regions of the country such as Gafsa, Siliana or Sidi Bouzid, emphasizing that his government places employment, security and price control at the top of its priorities. "Government action to solve the unemployment problem and control the rise in prices will bear fruit in the coming months," assured Mr. Larayedh, whose government obtained the confidence of the National Constituent Assembly Wednesday morning.
The government is concerned about restoring security and stability in the country in order to preserve economic activities directly affected by insecurity, such as tourism and trade, Mr. Larayedh further insisted.
He also underlined the determination of the new government team to control rising prices "by enacting appropriate laws and regulations" and to show more rigor in the fight against smuggling and the dismantling of its multiple networks.
Regarding the subsidy policy, Ali Larayedh affirmed that "the State will continue to subsidize basic products." A study is underway to determine the real beneficiaries of the subsidies, he indicated in this sense, specifying that "if a change is decided on the basis of this study, it will be in the direction of redirecting the subsidy to the most disadvantaged."
The Head of Government also recalled the measures taken to fight crime and combat violence and arms trafficking. "New programs and action plans are currently being developed to counter all kinds of fraud, crime and abuses," he said.
