For the first time in Tunisia, more than 100,000 jobs were created in 2012. This resulted in a 2.2-point decrease in the unemployment rate, from 18.9% in December 2011 to 16.7% currently, according to the Ministry of Professional Training and Employment, citing figures from the National Institute of Statistics.
These results are largely positive compared to the 2011 results, during which the number of job seekers increased by 137,000 people, the ministry stressed in a press release published Sunday.
Before 2012, the number of jobs created per year never exceeded 55,000, the ministry points out, praising the "performance" achieved during the past year and thus refuting criticism from some politicians relayed by the media.
