Tunisia: 385 Million Dinars in Craft Exports in 2012

The value of exports from the craft sector reached 385 million dinars (MD) in June 2012, according to the latest statistics from the National Office of Handicrafts (ONA).

This value is divided between indirect exports (328 MD) and direct exports (57 MD).

The craft sector contributes 2.2% to Tunisian exports and represents 4% of GDP. The value of annual investments in the craft sector is estimated at around 18.4 MD.

The number of artisans operating in the sector is around 350,000 (76 activities). The number of craft businesses is 1200, including 523 exporting companies, in addition to 72 authorized shops.

The craft sector has 38 Amine (guild leaders) and the annual number of trainees in the sector reaches around 15,000 people.

The craft sector provides 7000 jobs per year.

The ONA organizes a series of fairs and events annually, both domestically and internationally. Statistics indicate the organization of 22 events in the country, which saw the participation of 1000 exhibitors, while foreign events reached 15 (60 participants).
