Tunisia: Report on the 12th Carthage Investment Forum

The Foreign Investment Promotion Agency (FIPA Tunisia) organized, under the auspices of the Ministry of Development and International Cooperation, the 12th edition of the Carthage Investment Forum, which took place on June 3 and 4, 2010, at the Ramada Plaza Hotel in Tunis.

With the slogan "Tunisia, Moving Towards Technology", this 12th edition of the Forum, opened by Mr. Mohamed GHANNOUCHI, Prime Minister, was mainly part of consolidating Tunisia's position as a technological platform.
In addition to the welcome address by Mr. Mohamed Nouri JOUINI, Minister of Development and International Cooperation, the first day of the Forum included speeches by Mr. Hédi DJILANI, President of the Tunisian Union of Industry, Commerce and Crafts, and Mr. Abdelhamid Triki, Secretary of State to the Minister of Development and International Cooperation in charge of International Cooperation and Foreign Investment.
Seven foreign companies were awarded prizes by FIPA-Tunisia, namely:

• The best investor of the year 2009 award ("the investor of the year award") was awarded to REIKER, a German company based in Kairouan.
• The welcome award ("the welcoming award") was awarded to YAZAKI, a Japanese company based in Metlaoui and Redayef in the Gafsa region.
• The innovation investment award ("the innovation Investment award") was awarded to SAGEM SOFTWARE&TECHNOLOGIES, a French company based in Borj Ghorbal in the Ben Arous region.
• The offshoring investment award ("the offshoring investment award") was awarded to TELEPERFORMANCE, a French company based in Tunis and Sousse.
• The best integration award ("the most integrated investment award") was awarded to SOMFY, a French company based in Zaghouan.
• The best partnership award ("the partnership investment award") was awarded to TELNET ALTRAN CORPORATION, based in Tunis.
• The most friendly investor award ("the most friendly investor award") was awarded to Mr. Philippe CUSSONNET, director of the GITAS TUNISIAN AEROSPACE INDUSTRIES ASSOCIATION group and director of LATELEC.

This forum saw the participation of more than 1000 people, including 400 foreigners from 26 European, American, Arab and Asian countries. 200 private foreign companies, 17 consulting firms and 14 professional associations were present.
In addition to Tunisian and foreign journalists, whose number reached 92, this 12th edition of the Carthage Forum brought together 68 foreign ambassadors and representatives of foreign embassies accredited in Tunisia.
During the second day of the Forum, three panels were organized. The second day of the Forum was also devoted to organizing a multi-sectoral partnership, in which 80 foreign companies and 40 Tunisian companies participated.
118 contacts were made and 35 project ideas were identified during this 12th edition. 83% of foreign participants expressed their satisfaction with the quality of partnership and business meetings.
