Tunisia - Bizerte: Significant Change in Direct Employment Operations

Key employment indicators showed significant change in the Bizerte governorate during the first nine months of 2013 compared to the same period in 2012, according to a report presented by the regional director of vocational training and employment, Hassine Kilani.

The official indicated during the 3rd ordinary session of the Bizerte regional council for the current year that 3131 employment operations were carried out from January to the end of September 2013, an increase of 89.02% compared to the same period of the previous year.

He added that job and internship offers reached 6037 during the first nine months of 2013, a 10.1% increase compared to the number of offers recorded during the same period of 2012. However, declared job applications during the first nine months of 2012 decreased by 35.2%, according to Kilani, compared to the number of job applications recorded during the same period of 2012.

The regional official also highlighted that 441,000 higher education graduates were hired, an increase of 77.9% compared to the same period in 2012.

The number of beneficiaries of programs for this category (higher education graduates), such as internships, integration contracts, volunteer activities, and work incentive programs, decreased by 14.4% during the first nine months of 2013 compared to the number of people who benefited from these programs in 2012, according to Kilani.

The president of the social affairs committee within the special delegation of Bizerte (north) mentioned a relative improvement in the social situation within companies in the region, specifying that the number of legal strikes fell from 89 in 2012 to 62 strikes from January to October 15, 2013.
