Tunisia: Half of the planned jobs for 2012 created

More than half of the 100,000 jobs planned for 2012 were created during the first half of the year (61,000). According to the Ministry of Professional Training and Employment, new creations could even exceed expectations.

In 2012, the unemployment rate fell by 3.1%, from 18.9% to 17.6%, according to a statement released yesterday by the department, which however points out the shortage of labor in several sectors such as construction and public works, carpentry, mechanics, sanitary equipment, agriculture and welding.

The needs of these sectors are estimated at more than 100,000 workers. The number of jobs created until June 2012 does not include recruitment in the public sector (25,000) nor the 6,500 positions that will be provided during the second quarter of 2012 in public institutions, the ministry specifies.

The department adds that several positions were offered after last June by the public and private sectors in the interior regions.
