The Minister of Employment and Vocational Training, Hafedh Laamouri, declared yesterday on Al-Watanya news about unemployment that it was necessary to "open up to brother and friendly countries, within a framework of complementarity...It is not about begging. We have the skills and these countries need manpower. France, for example, has opened 9000 job positions, and Qatar nearly 35,000," he said.
For the first time, the unemployment rate has decreased by 3 points since the revolution. It stands at 15.3%, according to the latest statistics from the INS (National Institute of Statistics). The number of unemployed is 609,000, knowing that 90% of young unemployed people come from low-income families. According to Laamouri, the government plans to create at least 12,000 jobs in 2014.
"Recruiting in the public sector is not a good idea. Currently, this sector is supporting 30% more than its capacity," he said.
According to the minister, the solution would be to encourage domestic and foreign investment, as well as solidarity-based entrepreneurship, which consists of a group of young people from different complementary specialties presenting a project idea. The Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training is committed to helping them in the process of marketing their products.
For the first time this year, the guidance booklet for baccalaureate students will include vocational training, the minister declared yesterday. "We have also provided a list of specialties with a high unemployment rate to the Ministry of Higher Education, so that it can reduce the number of students oriented towards these specialties...We also provided them with a list of the most in-demand specialties," he announced.
His ministry plans, in the same vein, to hold a large information campaign on vocational training, in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry of Education.
