The Tunisia Works! (Tounes Tekhdem) program, designed to help young people enrolled in the employment encouragement program in the governorates of Gafsa, Kasserine, Tataouine, and Mednine find economic and professional opportunities, was launched last Thursday in Tunis.
Signed by the Minister of Professional Training and Employment, Naoufel Eljamali, and the director of Mercy Corps in Tunisia, Bretrand Effantin, the agreement targets young people enrolled in vocational training centers (ATFP), unemployed or underemployed university and vocational training graduates, and young entrepreneurs.
This agreement defines the terms of understanding and cooperation between the Ministry of Professional Training and Employment and Mercy Corps in the implementation of the program to support youth employment and entrepreneurship in the governorates concerned.
According to the contract, Mercy Corps is responsible for the proper execution of the program, in terms of objectives, results, and proper allocation of funds, while the Ministry of Professional Training and Employment is responsible for any action falling under its responsibilities or those of the bodies under its supervision.
Both parties agree to cooperate in the implementation of the program in the areas of vocational training and employment and undertake to implement the actions and activities identified in the program and to facilitate its execution.
Funded by the British and French development agencies, with investments estimated at nearly five million dinars, "Tounes Tekhdem" is a project initiated by Mercy Corps to improve the skills of young people and women to become entrepreneurs and improve their skills to better meet the needs of the labor market.
The three-year project will target 3,500 beneficiaries through activities that will improve their employability by enhancing training and support programs. It also aims to contribute to creating a more favorable environment for entrepreneurial initiatives by strengthening the capacity of private or associative providers.
"Tounes Tekhdem" will also support the creation and development of businesses.
To achieve this, the program will implement specific activities, such as market analyses, the establishment of joint advisory committees, targeted and gradual training, and business clubs.
