Tunisia – The government is "determined" to provide at least 50,000 jobs.

Mr. Said Aidi, Minister of Employment and Vocational Training, underlined the determination of the transitional government to provide at least 50,000 jobs this year, despite the exceptional economic situation in Tunisia. During a meeting with a group of job seekers in Gabes, the Minister specified that the ministry's action has recently focused on preparing the files for recruitment to the civil service. Recruitment criteria have been established in collaboration with job seeker associations and all components of civil society, thus guaranteeing the transparency of these operations, which could affect 22,000 job seekers. On this occasion, the Minister urged young people to show initiative and become self-employed in order to win the employment challenge. He insisted on the need to take advantage of the "Amel" program to promote the employability of its beneficiaries and facilitate their integration into the job market. He underlined that the governorate of Gabes is likely to offer more than 5,000 jobs in this context. The Minister specified that the total number of unemployed could reach 700,000, specifying that the ministry also attaches particular importance to technical cooperation that could help provide thousands of job opportunities in several friendly and brotherly countries.
