Tunisia: Unemployment rate falls to 17.6%

Tunisia's unemployment rate stood at 17.6% at the end of the second quarter of 2012, according to the results of the national survey on population and employment conducted by the National Institute of Statistics. This means that the number of unemployed people is 691.6 thousand out of a total active population of 3923.2 thousand.
In the first quarter of the current year, this rate was 18.1%, a decrease of 0.5 points compared to the fourth quarter of 2011, a period during which unemployment had decreased by 1.3 points.
By sex, the unemployment rate is 14.6% for males and 25.6% for females, according to the INS.
