Tourism Investment in Morocco

King Mohammed VI welcomed the significant interest in tourism investment in Morocco shown by numerous national and international operators and professionals, highlighting that achievements now surpass initial objectives in terms of capacity.

In a message to participants in the 8th Tourism Conference, which opened Saturday morning in Tetouan, the Sovereign expressed optimism regarding the momentum and strategic objectives of Vision 2010, stating that despite a gloomy global economic climate and unfavorable conditions in major tourist-sending countries, Morocco saw 7.4 million tourists and over 17 million overnight stays in 2007.

This demonstrates the attractiveness of Morocco's tourism offerings and its ability to withstand global and regional economic turbulence, the Sovereign emphasized in the message read by Prime Minister Abbas El Fassi.

King Mohammed VI also expressed optimism about the progress of the domestic tourism development program, stressing that this new offering tailored to national clients' expectations will undoubtedly enrich Morocco's tourism offerings.

In this regard, the Sovereign called for swift action to implement the concession process for the first resorts of the "Biladi" Plan. This should allow for the launch of their activities and services to welcome the first domestic vacationers by 2012, added the King.

"We take this opportunity to express Our gratitude and appreciation to the operators and investor partners of our country in the strategic tourism sector. With them, we can be confidently optimistic about the future and our collective ability to achieve the set objectives and explore new avenues of development. In this regard, We urge everyone to work to accelerate the pace of tourism projects and the implementation of planned new capacities," the Sovereign also stated.

King Mohammed VI also called on state partner operators to respect contractual deadlines and agreed quality commitments, urging all stakeholders to maintain the mobilization and momentum, both for the structuring projects of Vision 2010 and for domestic tourism projects.

"If We have bet on the development of tourism in Morocco, it is because we have the geographical, natural, and—

primarily human and civilizational—potential. We have always believed that the tourism sector is an extraordinary source of jobs for our youth and a powerful lever for human development, modernization, and openness for our country. The human element has been at the heart of the objectives of Vision 2010 from the outset," the Sovereign stressed.

King Mohammed VI noted that the reform and expansion of the national system of tourism schools and institutes are on track, noting that the effectiveness of this system remains dependent on regular evaluation and the need to adapt it by region and sector.

"Its openness to the professional environment remains an essential condition for increasing its performance and improving its quality, particularly through the necessary establishment of a system for pedagogical monitoring and responsiveness of training institutions," the Sovereign stated.

King Mohammed VI stressed the need to mobilize for the implementation, as soon as possible, of the training plan for the tourism sector, adopting a participatory and constructive approach, in perfect alignment with the qualitative requirements of Morocco's tourism offerings in all its components.

"The quality that We are committed to is also, as We have already emphasized, an authentic and responsible tourism," the Sovereign said, adding that "whether in its natural, human, or cultural dimension, the development of responsible tourism is the guarantee of the sector's sustainability." "It is our duty to contribute to preserving the environment in all areas and to integrate our projects into an approach that reconciles tourism development with environmental and natural resource protection," said King Mohammed VI.

King Mohammed VI noted with satisfaction the actions undertaken within the framework of the Moroccan Charter for Responsible Tourism, which has obtained the adherence of several national and international operators and now positions the Kingdom as a privileged and sustainable destination. He urged all tourism operators to strongly adhere to this citizen approach, respectful of natural and energy resources and meeting the requirements of sustainable human development.
