The organizers of the “Go Green & Win” competition have announced the selection of twenty promising projects in the field of green innovation in Tunisia. These projects, from young Tunisian entrepreneurs in several regions of the country such as Sfax, Kasserine, Kebili, Gafsa, Kairouan, Mahdia, Monastir, Testour, Bizerte, and Tunis, cover diverse activities ranging from installing photovoltaic systems to recycling various waste, ecotourism, and energy management.
Applicants presented estimated project budgets ranging from 50,000 dinars to over 2 million dinars. The precise budget calculations demonstrate the high caliber of the candidates and the significant economic stake of the environmental economy.
The “Go Green & Win” competition was launched several months ago by the Tunisian Center for Social Entrepreneurship, with support from the German Development Cooperation (GIZ Tunisia). It is open to young people from all over Tunisia with business plans for creating companies in green sectors. While the growth potential and sustainability of the projects are important evaluation criteria for the submitted business plans, innovation and environmental impact are prioritized.
Ten innovative projects will be selected and announced in mid-November 2012. These projects must present a clear strategy, good operational and organizational capacity, and financial sustainability. Following professional and technical support, three finalists will be rewarded at an awards ceremony in December 2012.
“We are not surprised by the level of the participants in this competition,” says Asma Mansour, spokesperson for the Tunisian Center for Social Entrepreneurship. “Young Tunisian entrepreneurs have long awaited a real opportunity to present their projects, and this was the very reason for the ‘Go Green & Win’ competition, whose relevance is now demonstrated by the quality of the ideas received,” Ms. Mansour stated.
This competition is supported by the Regional Fund for Youth Employment and the German Cooperation’s (GIZ) program to support entrepreneurship and innovation.
