Tunisia-Tourism: Over 5 Million Tourists by the End of September 2012.

The number of tourists by the end of September 2012 reached record numbers, exceeding 5 million, while revenue peaked at 2400 million dinars.

In terms of employment, the tourist season provided more than 400,000 direct jobs and more than 1 million indirect jobs.

It is also expected that the number of tourists will exceed the figures of 2010, a benchmark year that recorded 6 million and 900 thousand tourists and revenue of around 3500 million dinars.

Already, the number of overnight stays in hotels during the first 9 months of the current year reached 24,829,285 nights compared to 29,114,117 during the same period of 2010.

Revenue per overnight stay reached 96 dinars at the end of September 2012, compared to 100 dinars during the same period of 2010, while revenue per tourist amounted to 506 dinars compared to 483 dinars in 2010.

Libyans came in first with 1,413,535 visitors, followed by the French (827,029), Algerians (612,830), Germans (317,172), and British (267,443). The Portuguese came in last with 13,944 tourists.
