Within the framework of its support for education, higher education, employment and professional training in Tunisia, the European Commission has paid the third and final installment of the support program for education, professional training, and higher education linked to the employability of young graduates (PEFESE) for an amount of €19.3 million.
With a total budget of €65 million, including €61.3 million in sectoral budget support and €3.3 million for technical assistance activities, the PEFESE program supports the reforms implemented by the Tunisian government in education and training. It plays an important role in current cooperation between the European Union and Tunisia and aims to improve the efficiency of education, professional training, and higher education systems.
According to a press release from the Delegation of the European Union to Tunisia, this program is a logical continuation of the support provided by the European Union to reforms in the Tunisian education sector since the 2000s, which had allowed the opening of this sector to the business world and the improvement of the match between training and employment.
Note that this program includes three main areas: quality and governance, information and guidance system, employability and partnerships. The main challenges of PEFESE are improving the quality of teaching, synergy and complementarity between the sub-sectors of the education system, as well as strengthening the regional dimension.
