Tunisia: A Zakat Fund to Boost Employment

The secretary general of the Tunisian Zakat Association (ATZ), Habib Kallel, has called for the creation of a Zakat fund to create jobs for the unemployed through the creation of micro-projects and aid to the poor.

Speaking Sunday in Sfax, at the closing of a series of training courses on Zakat for individuals and companies organized by the ATZ, Mr. Kallel specified that this is a development tool and a microfinance mechanism.

Religious leaders and experts presented conferences during this training on “general introduction to Zakat,” “compatibility of company Zakat,” “the profession of Zakat accountant,” and “provisions for setting and evaluating money related to commerce and industry subject to Zakat.”

The objective of the ATZ, created in 2011, is to be a scientific and awareness reference for Zakat as well as a structure specialized in the accounting of Zakat for companies and individuals.

This association intends to publish a “Tunisian Zakat Yearbook” and a “Zakat Accountant Yearbook” for companies.
