Mr. Moncef Cheikh-Rouhou, a professor at the Paris School of Business and a member of the Constituent Assembly, announced on Wednesday, January 4th, on Express FM radio, the upcoming organization of a telethon dedicated to job creation.
The telethon is a general and spontaneous initiative. It must be undertaken by our televisions and all our businessmen, as part of the fight against the scourge of unemployment. The objective will be not only to collect money but also to create jobs.
During this telethon, pressing and moving calls will be made to all our businessmen, to encourage them to present, live on television, their companies and to publicly announce a massive recruitment plan for graduates and non-graduates, both for the immediate future and for the rest of the year.
Tunisia is going through a transition phase in all areas: "We are currently experiencing an employment crisis due to internal and external factors. Growth in 2011 was zero. With an unemployment rate exceeding 19% of the active population, this issue is one of the national priorities and urgent measures are needed."
Mr. Cheikh-Rouhou also highlighted the efforts of the transitional government in reducing unemployment. He insisted that in 2011, for the first time, recruitment criteria were totally objective.
These unemployed people are a major challenge in the reconstruction of the country, because the country will never be able to stabilize if these young people remain marginalized or disillusioned. It is perhaps worth recalling, in passing, that the first slogan chanted in the demonstrations in December 2010 was simply: Work-freedom-national dignity. Work was therefore one of the first demands of a people whose social malaise could no longer be concealed.
Will the telethon be a solution to reduce unemployment in Tunisia?
