A national strategy for the digital sector will be established by 2018, announced yesterday the Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Information and Communication Technologies, Taoufik Jelassi.
Taoufik Jelassi, speaking at the closing of the 1st International Conference on "e-administration: challenges and strategies", specified that this strategy will be developed during a participatory meeting scheduled from May 30 to June 3, 2014 in Korba. He announced that the State plans to create a unique digital identifier for each citizen to strengthen e-administration.
The minister added that the first meetings of the Higher Council for Digital Technologies will take place in June 2014 with the participation of representatives from the administration, the private sector and civil society. He added that the role of this council is to define the main orientations in the field of information and communication technologies.
Taoufik Jelassi emphasized the need to undertake reforms in the Tunisian administration before digitizing it, while benefiting from successful international experiences in this area. He stressed the need to involve citizens in decision-making and in determining orientations through the implementation of the "electronic consultations" system.
While stressing the need to move from the concept of "training for employment" to that of "training for self-employment", Taoufik Jelassi underlined that the use of digital technology in all areas is likely to create more jobs for ICT graduates.
