TUNIS (Xinhua) - Investments to be mobilized by the "Tunisian Solar Plan" (PST), scheduled for launch in 2014, will introduce by 2030 almost 30% of renewable energy into the country's energy system, the director general of the National Agency for Energy Management (ANME), Noura Laroussi, announced in the press on Wednesday.
According to the director general of ANCE, the PST "should mobilize a total investment of around 4,000 million euros during the period 2014-2030."
"These investments," she said, "will be mainly financed by the Tunisian and foreign private sector." As they (investments) will encourage the creation of projects related, among other things, to the installation of photovoltaic and wind farms, with the possibility of creating 18,000 direct and indirect jobs in Tunisia.
Currently being updated, the "Tunisian Solar Plan" was designed in 2009 and "should be approved by the current government at the end of this year," added Ms. Laroussi.
Referring to her country's energy situation, the Tunisian official stressed that "Tunisia must make the most of the renewable energy niche to position itself in the manufacture of certain components for export."
"Our country," she argued, "has considerable industrial experience, particularly in the mechanical, electrical and electronic industries, as well as in the construction materials sector."
