The Minister of Development, Investment, and International Cooperation, Yassine Brahim, has called for in-depth reflection on the implementation of a sectoral strategy for the next five years, in order to make Tunisia a regional center for the aeronautical industry.
Visiting Stelia Tunisia, a company specializing in the manufacture of Airbus components, in the El Mghira industrial zone on Thursday, the minister highlighted the progress that has marked Tunisia's aeronautical sector in a short time, through the success achieved by foreign companies and some Tunisian companies in the field.
Stelia Tunisia, which began operations in 2009, now provides nearly 1700 jobs. It plans to expand starting in 2016 with investments of nearly 10 million dollars, aiming to create 100 new jobs.
The average production of Airbus aircraft, including the A330 and A320, has increased to an average of 44 aircraft per month, which necessitates the development of subcontracting companies, including those present in Tunisia, which provide more than 15% of the components of the French aircraft's structure.
In addition to Stelia Tunisia, the El Mghira industrial zone includes 7 other companies active in aeronautics for the same manufacturer.
