1 in 2 Moroccans Wants to Live Abroad

A recent study by ReKrute.com, in collaboration with Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and the international employment network The Network, highlights a significant trend among Moroccan professionals: 52% of them want to live abroad. This figure is double the global average, which stands at 23%.
Preferred Destinations
The most popular international destinations for Moroccan talent are Canada, France, and Germany. English-speaking countries, including the United States, Belgium, and Australia, also attract many Moroccan candidates.
Main Motivations
The main reasons pushing Moroccans to consider expatriation are varied:
- Financial and economic reasons (62%)
- Career considerations (61%)
- Better overall quality of life (57%)
- Working conditions and professional environment (47%)
- Access to better training and personal development opportunities (45%)
Obstacles to Expatriation
However, several factors prevent some from taking the plunge. Among them, the inability to bring family members (41%), attachment to local culture (38%), and the high cost of living abroad (30%) are the most cited reasons.
International Mobility and Career Development
The study also highlights that 29% of Moroccan executives hold positions abroad, and 42% of respondents are ahead of the global average in terms of international mobility.
This survey reveals a strong desire for expatriation among Moroccan talent, motivated mainly by economic, professional, and quality-of-life factors. Despite cultural and family ties and concerns about the cost of living abroad, the pursuit of new opportunities and a better quality of life continues to attract a large number of professionals in Morocco.
