10 tips to boost your career

Do you dream of reorienting your career? Radically changing jobs? Returning to your original training that you have never practiced? A career change is always possible, but it is essential, beforehand, to take stock of your situation and to define a valid approach.

1. Talk to someone who has already taken the plunge
You certainly have in your entourage a person who has already reoriented his career. Go see her and discuss it with her. This informal conversation will allow you to define an adapted strategy, to realize the obstacles that you will have to overcome, but above all to gather precious information.

2. Be realistic
Don't target a sector that you find 'cool', but which you know nothing about. You must be able to use certain experiences acquired in the past, the sector followed during your studies or a field explored during your leisure time. Do not hesitate to target a position that seems below your skills. You will then be able to climb the ladder in order to fully flourish later.

3. Make sure of your choice
Ask yourself relevant questions. Will this position bring you more satisfaction? Do you have a concrete idea of ??what such a position involves? Try to get the inside scoop by talking to someone who works in the sector. You will have a better view of a typical workday and the challenges inherent in the chosen activity.

4. Know what you want
Having an idea of ??the sector in which you want to work is not enough. You need to find out about the jobs offered in the activity in question. To do this, read some job descriptions in a specific field to see what type of position suits you best.

5. Take your entourage into account
A new job in a new sector often involves changes in habits. And this will inevitably have repercussions on your private life. Working hours, leave arrangements or even salary can be very different from what you are used to. Be sure that this suits you and also talk about it with your family to make sure that it is not a major obstacle for your entourage.

6. Fill your gaps
You lack certain skills to target the job of your dreams? Do not hesitate to follow training courses to remedy these shortcomings. Also mention them on your CV to show your motivation.

7. Define your professional ambitions
Clearly state your professional aspirations at the top of your CV (just below your contact details and personal information). The recruiter must be able to understand at first glance why you are applying for a position, even if you do not have the ideal profile.

8. Rework your resume
Opt for a slightly less traditional approach. Don't bet everything on professional experience, as it may not be convincing. Instead, highlight your skills and, if applicable, your training.

9. Use your network
Make a list of all the people who can help you. Favor people active in the sector you are seeking. Also talk about it around you to make the telephone game work. Maybe a friend's acquaintance knows someone who can help you...

10. Use social networks
Remember to adapt your professional profile. Also subscribe to groups in the targeted field and publish relevant articles on your page.
