10 Life Lessons We Should All Know

From primary school to university, we learn a lot throughout our schooling, but no school teaches us the art of living...

That's why you need to explore the world for yourself, learn through trial and error, by falling and getting back up. Unless you keep your eyes and ears open to capture what the wisest have to share, use their experience to learn ten essential life lessons.

1. Life is short, as is youth

No teenager is indifferent to hearing clichés like time flying by, life being reduced to very little, etc. But clichés are what they are, they must contain some truth. If everyone agrees that time passes too quickly, it's because it does. Why wait for the hourglass to empty? It's not a good idea to convince yourself of this, and it's much better to start and act now. It would be a shame to constantly postpone things; what would you have to admire when you look back? You are only young once, full of energy, and worries will come later. Make the most of it while you still can.

2. Yes, life is hard

Another cliché: life is a constant struggle! We all know our share of difficulties and sadness and must sooner or later deal with death. Be prepared for it, without it becoming paralyzing. Stressing all day or getting worked up is pointless. Enjoy life as long as it goes smoothly, and arm yourself for the most difficult moments. Saying that life is easy is not very realistic. Of course, obstacles will arise, but nothing is insurmountable.

3. No one has a crystal ball

No one has the gift of predicting what will happen in five years. Nothing goes as planned, even when we try to plan our future as consciously as possible. Don't become dependent on your own expectations. Don't assume you can predict things. It's also not advisable to get stuck on what happens to you, because everything can always change.

Individuals lacking confidence in the future, for example, seek a form of guarantee in astrological predictions, but it's more of a burden than anything else. Living in constant change is, on the contrary, very liberating. Any pain or great sorrow is only temporary. Life then resumes its course. What is important today may not be so in a few years. There's nothing wrong with that. If only for this reason, it's better to avoid taking yourself too seriously.

4. Take care of your health. Now and no later

We all know it: health is paramount. It's better not to smoke, moderate your alcohol and drug consumption, and get enough sleep. You don't believe it? Ask your elders what they would change if they could do it all over again. Most will tell you they should have led a healthier life. Your body wears out faster than your mind, and the consequences are often irreversible. In 20 years, you'll still be living in the same body and will prefer it to be healthy and in good working order.

5. Invest in the people who are important to you

Life is full of choices, but why make life heavy and complicated? You will meet very important people, and others who are less so. Focus only on the first category, those who make you better and accept you as you are. Prevent your relationships from falling apart, invest as much time and energy as possible in them. Don't do it while complaining.

6. Avoid negative people

In the same vein, just as you should surround yourself with positive people who are important to you, it's preferable to avoid individuals who don't suit you. Dare to say no to those who don't add value to your life. Relationships that don't support you will be harmful in the long run and won't make you happier. Also, stay away from negative or miserable people: they drain all your energy.

7. You can't have everything in life

Young people think 'the sky is the limit', but it's when we get older that perspectives darken somewhat. At 16, we have the world at our feet, but it's better to understand quickly that, sooner or later, you can't have everything in life. Nothing dramatic, just focus on what you really want.

You will sometimes have to abandon a project to achieve another. Preparing yourself mentally will save you a lot of disappointments. You will thus keep all your energy, and it is only by staying focused on your goals that you will be able to achieve your most important dreams.

8. Dare to take risks

We define our studies in adolescence and make professional choices when we are in our twenties. This may seem relatively early, but in itself, there is no problem at this level since we can always make changes.

Whether you are 30, 40 or 50 years old, it is never too late to reprogram your life. Not daring often leads to more regrets than trying something else. Therefore, choose the first option!

9. Keep developing yourself

It's not only your body that demands your attention, your mind and intelligence also deserve it. Staying mentally healthy is absolutely essential. Once you've left school and have a job, keep developing yourself personally. You will get a lot of satisfaction from it, and it's excellent fuel for moving forward in life. Money, work, and friendships come and go. Your intelligence, on the other hand, remains very present. Try to learn throughout your life and also take the time to reflect on your mental evolution.

10. Respect yourself

You are who you are and, unless you believe in reincarnation, you have to live with it. Respect yourself, learn to love yourself. Otherwise, life will seem unnecessarily difficult. There's nothing wrong with being a little selfish: if you don't think about yourself, who will? Start appreciating yourself as soon as possible. The older you get, the more difficult it will become.
