Text: The planning for the creation of training centers for tourist guides will be done based on needs identified on the ground, said Mohamed Boussaid, Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts.
The ministry plans to grant permits for the creation of private centers that meet specific requirements, as part of strengthening training efforts in this sector, added Mr. Boussaid during the weekly oral question session in the House of Representatives, in response to a question about the profession of tourist guide in mountainous areas.
While emphasizing the importance of the role of guides in the tourism industry, the minister recalled that the practice of this profession is subject to a legal framework set by the law on the status of tourism guides, tourist guides and mountain guides.
The government has developed a bill amending certain provisions of this text, which this department has been working on since last year, the minister said, specifying that points relating to the conditions of the profession, training, revenue and representation have been discussed with professionals in the sector.
Mr. Boussaid also recalled the agreement signed last March with the Ministry of the Interior and the regions of Tadla-Azilal, Souss-Massa-Drâa and Tangier-Tetouan for the integration of 81 non-approved mountain guides, who have followed training courses of 2 to 5 months requiring a budget of 1.5 million dirhams.
