5 tips to make a good impression on your new employer

It's your first day at your new employer and you naturally want to make a good impression. You want to show right away that you are 100% motivated and that you will give everything to meet the challenge. But how can you display such confidence when you have everything to learn and you don't know anyone in the company? Here are five helpful tips for a successful entry into the position.

1. Arrive on time
Punctuality is a sign of motivation. Arriving on time shows others that they can count on us. Be careful, don't arrive an hour early either, this could betray some nervousness. And you're not going to arrive before the people in charge of training you anyway...

2. Smile

The first moments spent in a new company are very stressful. Don't forget to smile. Your colleagues are probably seeing you for the first time. You will make a better impression on them if you seem friendly, and they will be more likely to answer your questions.

3. Note what you need to remember
Note down as many explanations as possible about your new role. Ask for something to write on if it is not offered spontaneously. At first, everything will seem logical to you, but often things will become complicated as soon as you have to act. And taking a lot of notes is a way of showing your commitment and involvement to both your colleagues and your manager.

4. Ask questions
Even the most intelligent people don't understand everything right away. So there's no shame in asking questions. For example, if you are asked to enter data into a particular system, why not ask what this data will be used for, or if the system allows reports to be generated automatically, etc. This will show that you are interested in your job, which will certainly make a good impression.

5. Say what you know
Have you already held a similar position or used the same systems in the past? Don't hesitate to mention it on your first day of work. You will save your colleague time, and you will also be able to exchange your experiences. Talking about your professional background is a way of showing that you know the job and that you are motivated. However, be careful not to come across as a know-it-all.

It's your turn!
