6 tips to regain self-confidence

When you are looking for your first job, you often go through moments of doubt... But it shouldn't settle in, here are some tips to overcome it.

1. Terrible "personal beliefs"... Some perceptions (generally unfounded) lead us to self-censor, to not dare to apply for a sector or a profession that we dream of. Any conquest of self-esteem therefore starts with these well-established opinions that must be reviewed ("I am an introvert", "I have trouble with numbers"...) and dare to question them, so as not to be too burdened by them!

2. Be careful not to play the wallflower: always for lack of self-definition, we want at all costs to stay within the lines. "With the risk of sending a cover letter so formatted and unoriginal that it does not attract attention," warns Frédéric Adida, a coach. In the end, the candidate disperses his effort, receives little or no response, and risks becoming demotivated.

3. Don't isolate yourself. A few months of "struggle", it can happen. The best thing is to share your experience with others... "I have been looking for a job in marketing for more than 6 months," explains Lucas, holder of a 3rd cycle at the University of Nanterre. "On the internet, I discuss with others in the same situation, to exchange advice and make our applications more visible."

4. Share, yes, but without becoming sclerotic.
In a period of relative fragility, it is possible to fall into a kind of negative complacency. The choice of people you associate with is really important! Exchanging with career guidance professionals (from Apec, AFIJ, Cité des Métiers...), or even professionals in the targeted sector of activity allows you to validate your project and regain confidence. Finally, once the speech is constructed, why not practice it with a circle of friends or close relations? You never know? An opportunity could appear...

5. Multiply experiences:
this is the best way not to take "failures" as a personal indictment. "Sending a letter is not that complicated. I desacralize this act... by organizing, for example, a negative response contest with friends!" relativizes Claudine. A "no" thus takes on much less importance.... This is also the case if you do not place all your hopes in one position and one alone at a time.

6. Do you need to be reassured? Recruiters too! "With time, you realize that recruiters also have major constraints to respect," analyzes Véronique, a graduate of ESC Tours looking for a position in communication. "When they look for a recent graduate "with 2 years of experience", companies actually express a fear."
