Who says work time management says balance between professional and personal life! Indeed, working hours can have impressive effects on productivity, health, family life... it is therefore an important element for workers who want to dedicate more time to their families and friends, but also, increasingly, for managers.
Many of you have noticed that workplace stress is not only linked to the number of hours spent in the office but also to the distribution of these hours... An excess can have serious consequences on health (overwork, stress, insomnia, demotivation,...) on the family (lack of time dedicated to your spouse or your children...) since you have less time to dedicate to them.
However, even a relatively short working week can lead to conflicts between your work and your family life, if your hours cover hours or days that place you on the margins of social life... It's all a matter of synchronization and flexibility of your hours...
Work schedule management
In this context, we speak of individualization and flexibility of working hours. Employees can, for example, choose their arrival and departure times each day and thus compose the schedule they wish. This flexibility helps to increase your overall satisfaction, therefore your productivity. It is important to note that this technique does not reduce the number of hours worked per day, but it allows for great flexibility and individual responsibility for when these hours are performed.
Adjusting working hours is a kind of social responsibility of the company towards the social life of its employees. Unlike traditional rigid schedules, an agreement to adjust schedules leads to satisfaction for both contracting parties and better employee productivity.
Individualized schedules
The employer can institute a system of individualized schedules, a kind of à la carte schedule, depending on the individual case. Each member of staff can then adopt the schedule that suits them best, while remaining, of course, within the framework of the company agreement which generally provides for a fixed period during which all staff must be present, and also ensuring that the mandatory weekly working hours are met.
Schedule changes by a business manager
These can in no case lead to the termination of the contract in case of refusal, and in general a refusal is not appropriate unless the new hours change from day work to night work for example. However, the employer must always inform the works council (if there is one) and the labor inspector when they wish to change working hours.
Some of the contractual provisions (working from home, benefiting from continuous hours, working part-time for a well-defined period, rotating teams, etc.) may aim at objectives other than family well-being, for example increasing productivity and operational flexibility, improving employee health, etc.
