At work, obviously, we can't get along with everyone. Sharing our daily lives with people who are often different requires real flexibility and great adaptability. But it seems that the game (and the stakes) is worth the candle, as it is true that maintaining healthy professional relationships is necessary for the proper maintenance of our emotional balance and the smooth running of our professional actions.
Mutual respect, the central piece of the puzzle.
Building fruitful relationships with our work colleagues is also, in itself, a job... To be able to evolve in a pleasant and fulfilling environment, it is advisable to foster a minimum of understanding by practicing what we could call "mutual respect", this respect which is manifested by a sincere interest in the colleague, an acceptance of their place, their role...
However, tensions remain inevitable, even when ties are close.
Tensions, these essential pieces of the puzzle.
When we work with people who have needs and objectives too different from our own - which is almost always the case - a breeding ground for jealousy, bickering and all kinds of frustrations can develop, each wanting, for example, their idea to be approved, valued and retained.
The attitude we adopt towards these tensions, our reactions and those of our colleagues will undoubtedly decide the atmosphere in which we will then work together. It therefore seems preferable to always strive to take a step back from the current situation, to try to perceive emotions and events with as much detachment as possible and, above all, to settle our differences diplomatically. Avoiding involving other colleagues in your grievances is a basic rule of wisdom.
Golden rules, these winning pieces of the puzzle.
Certain behaviors foster good working relationships.
Here are a few...:
The "three sieves" test.
Well known but little applied, the "three sieves" test should never be lost sight of before speaking and believing…
1. The truth: Always verify that information received or issued is true.
2. The goodness: Verify that what you want to say about the other is something positive.

Certain behaviors foster good working relationships.
Here are a few...:
- Be humble and discreet in your demeanor and words.
- Show discernment.
- Remain open and sensitive to others.
- Eliminate ambiguities in your relationships from the start. Things must be clear.
- Clarify and separate the roles you hold within your company.
- Try to anticipate the consequences of your words/actions on those around you. Be responsible and consistent.
- Consider that there are few major differences between professional relationships and couple relationships, insofar as, in both cases, harmony and good understanding evolve according to respect for the other, cooperation and established communication.
- Take into account in your behavior the perception that others have of you without becoming anything other than yourself. Find a balance. Be receptive but honest.
- Respect confidentiality and secrets that have been confided in you.
