The city wants to strengthen the automotive, aeronautics, renewable energy, offshoring and logistics sectors.
The economic capital has strong ambitions for the coming years. The city is developing its potential and plans to create several projects and job opportunities. In terms of offshoring, Casanearshore represents a strong competitive hub with its 300,000 m² of offices and services.
This sector would represent a boon for the 21,000 graduates expected in the next three years, as well as for other young people, since the city plans to create 30,000 offshoring jobs in 2013. Another growth driver for Greater Casablanca is the aeronautics sector. This sector's turnover will increase by 2020 to reach 28 MDH. For now, aeronautics represents a volume of investment of 900 million euros for the metropolis. It has more than 40 companies and employs more than 6,000 people. This figure could be increased to 30,000 jobs in 2020. For now, 70,000 graduates are trained in vocational training establishments, in addition to the 10,000 engineers expected at the end of 2010 and the graduates of the aeronautics professions institute. It should be noted that the Nouaceur aerodrome is designed to meet the specific needs of sector operators.
Casablanca is also undertaking to maintain its position as the country's leading multimodal logistics center. With 80% of air freight, 55% of foreign trade, 51% of passenger traffic and 45% of industrial exports, the city wants to develop its logistics hubs. Thus, it plans to create between 50 and 90 ha of urban logistics platforms and 500 ha of peripheral platforms in 2030. The latter will first be reinforced by 300 ha in 2020.
The third pillar of growth for Greater Casablanca is the automotive industry. Currently, 85 companies operate in this sector and achieve an export volume of 1,100 million dollars. However, this figure is far from satisfying the ambitions of Casablanca decision-makers. They plan to increase the export volume to 18 million dollars in 2015. The main automotive activities in Casablanca concern wiring, seat covers, mechanical or electrical components, tires, maintenance, etc.
They offer a range of services, thus reducing the cost of sales and creating thousands of job opportunities. In addition to classic sectoral niches, renewable energies also represent a major development driver for the economic capital. Wind power, photovoltaic solar power and solar thermal power are the main activities developed in Greater Casablanca. The companies operating in this sector could achieve, by 2020, an annual income of 4 billion euros and a turnover of 2 billion dirhams from solar thermal energy.
The development of all these sectors is capable of raising the metropolis to the level of international megacities, provided that deadlines are met and things are done properly.
Professional Real Estate
One cannot talk about economic development without mentioning professional real estate. This sector includes office space, industrial premises, warehousing and logistics premises and commercial spaces. In this context, the SDAU plans to provide the Greater Casablanca region in 2030 with 5,000 ha of additional economic activity zones. These will be dedicated to industrial zones, logistics platforms, office space and commercial spaces.
