WEF Ranking: Morocco's Competitiveness Scores Points

72nd worldwide, it moves up 5 places in the WEF ranking.

Two good points: the business climate and the budget deficit.

Is Morocco a reference in terms of competitiveness in Africa? This is what the World Economic Forum (WEF) argues in its latest 2014-2015 annual report. Established in collaboration with the African Development Bank (AfDB), the OECD, and the World Bank, the report highlights Morocco's potential. The Kingdom climbs to 72nd position in the ranking (out of 144 countries) and gains 5 places. It positions itself as a leader in the Maghreb and 4th on the continent behind Rwanda (62nd), South Africa (56th), and Mauritius (39th). "Progress that reflects the efforts deployed in recent years to improve its business environment," justify the authors of the report. Morocco accumulates good grades through the appreciation of several criteria, including infrastructure, the macroeconomic environment, and primary education. Certainly, Morocco has achieved near-universal schooling, particularly in remote regions, but this remains insufficient. The rigidity of programs and school dropout continue to weigh down the system.

In terms of health, medical coverage through AMO and Ramed would improve Morocco's position. The WEF also welcomes the control of the budget deficit over the past two years. Among the good points awarded is the performance of trade
