If you recognize yourself in all these signs, you definitely have a midlife crisis. If you recognize at least four, you have a serious risk of experiencing a period of crisis.
1. You are between 35 and 45 years old. This is a fairly wide range, but it characterizes executives who are no longer juniors and who should be at the peak of their careers.
2. You feel frustrated. You feel that you haven't accomplished a tenth of your childhood dreams. While this didn't bother you before, it's become an obsession.
3. You are going through a period of depression, more or less severe. It's that "little depression" that can turn into a big one. You no longer exercise and avoid evenings with friends.
4. You don't feel sufficiently rewarded for your professional efforts. This is a fairly common feeling in the workplace, but it ends up paralyzing you and harming your creativity.
5. You feel the need to give meaning to your existence. You read philosophy, you are passionate about Buddhism. You volunteer at the parish.
6. You tend to comfort yourself with overeating, alcohol, or other substances. A little pick-me-up, a little relaxant, and a good meal to console yourself. You're ruining your health, and you know it.
7. You feel misunderstood. A bit like adolescence, you have trouble finding people to talk to.
8. You tend to make unnecessary purchases. You buy electronic gadgets, you change cars without the need or means.
9. You pay new attention to your appearance. You feel like you're getting old. It's just a feeling, because you've been aging since the day you were born.
10. You are certain that in three years you will have a different job. "What if I opened a bed and breakfast or a tea room, and what if I stayed in Bali at the end of my vacation?" you wonder.
