1. Wait for a response after the morning “How are you?”
At the office, nobody really waits for a response to the daily and automatic "How are you?" What if you sometimes made the effort to ask this question, to wait and hear the response...? It is not at all a matter of engaging in a long personal discussion, even less of practicing armchair (and hallway) psychology, but rather of showing a certain attentiveness to that colleague who has been a bit gloomy for a few days. Entering into a slightly more in-depth conversation with your interlocutor will allow you to be considerate of them that day.
2. Leave your door open as often as possible.
If you work in a private office, consider leaving the entrance freely accessible as often as possible. This gesture will reveal a state of mind, clearly show that you are open to dialogue, available, and will prevent you from isolating yourself. If knocking is required, many of your colleagues will not dare to cross the threshold.
If you are in an open space, since there is no door, it is your face and its expressions that will allow others to approach you.
3. Share your croissant.
"Starting the day by sharing croissants and hot chocolate is bringing the intimacy of breakfast into the company," says Philippe Detrie, president of the Inergie consulting firm. It seems, indeed, that one of the surest and quickest ways to create bonds is to share this moment of serenity, to consider together the start of the workday. So think about "sharing your buttery croissant," or even organizing regular communal breakfasts.
4. Remember birthdays.
The tradition of a group gift for a colleague whose birthday it is should not be neglected. It establishes a certain "family spirit" within the company, which is pleasant and beneficial for everyone.
5. Respect the famous “no email within 20 meters”.
Avoid as much as possible communicating by email with your colleagues sitting near your desk because while it is true that email leaves a precise and necessary trace, it avoids the communication essential to this entity called a work "team." Take a few minutes to chat. It will be all the more effective. The email will then arrive as a reminder of your discussion and will serve to provide additional figures or data.
6. Take care of your colleagues.
Without letting yourself be overwhelmed—and even less forgetting yourself—think of others, help your colleagues who you feel need it, do favors if possible, have the right word, cordial, even friendly... It is not a matter here of confusing being liked and establishing a peaceful and harmonious work atmosphere.
7. Let your inner child speak.
While immaturity and childishness are not welcome in an office, it is wise, sometimes, to know how to become that naive child who dares to ask the questions that cross their mind and ask spontaneously: "Do you want to come to lunch with me?" Again, forget emails from time to time to naturally talk to and question your colleague. You will probably be surprised to see that your colleagues quickly get into the game and also still have a child's soul.
8. Share your meals.
Mealtime is and remains an important moment of conviviality. So consider sharing your meals, whether at the office or at home. This will allow you to realize that behind that taciturn and grumpy person who shares your space and open space hides someone charming and friendly.
