Title: Original Activities to Bring Your Teams Together On land: bet on the new and the exceptional to surprise
Quad biking, car racing, karting... Activities taking place in a roaring vehicle continue to occupy an important place in team building events. However, while remaining on land, other exceptional activities exist. The Parisian agency Quarterback, specialized in sports communication, offers a one-day "escrime discovery" seminar. "A discipline that has the advantage of being very quickly fun," observes Frédéric Boue, project manager at Quarterback agency. "Moreover, you don't need to be a great sportsman to have fun."
First of all, participants receive complete equipment. Then the trainers present the discipline. The afternoon is devoted to a team tournament on tracks. The groups are led and supervised by fencing masters graduated from the French Fencing Federation. The day ends with an awards ceremony around a cocktail. On this occasion, it is possible to organize a meeting with champions of the discipline such as Laura Flessel (gold medalist at the Olympic Games). Feasible everywhere, this activity is aimed at groups of 20 to 80 people. "It works very well with women," notes Frédéric Boue.
Up to the armored duel
Combat activities are a classic of team building. They allow the development of team cohesion through strong sensations. In this area, it is necessary to mention a most original activity: the tank battle, proposed by the agency Tematis. Strong sensations guaranteed! Rest assured, all shots are made with paintball ammunition and guarantee total safety. This experience includes a technical briefing, another on safety, followed by two hours of tank driving, not forgetting loading and cannon firing. "It is a great success with male audiences", observes Nicolas Charvet, CEO of Tematis. There are three people per vehicle: one drives, another loads and the third shoots. This activity is practiced from April to October, in England, around Birmingham. It is possible to accommodate groups of up to 30 people and thus have the opportunity to put in place real attack strategies. In terms of safety, the experience takes place in a closed perimeter and each crew member receives protective equipment (Kevlar helmet, combat suit and gloves).
In a completely different world, gastronomic workshops are very popular with companies. In this sector, there are many providers: Atelier des chefs, Potel et Chabot, Lenôtre, la Belle Ecole, Chef Martial, Ludimus, etc. To vary from cooking classes, the company Chef à la maison has set up "the Trophée des chefs". This involves putting several teams in competition on the creation of a complete meal within a limited time. After about two hours of practice, the preparations are evaluated by the chef, who designates the winning team. After the medal ceremony, the participants taste the dishes. These culinary challenges can be organized throughout France. This amount includes the provision of a chef and a head waiter with the equipment (toques, aprons, etc.). The meal and drinks are included.
Building on the success of its formula, Chef à la maison offers a wine-based version. The "Trophée des sommeliers" workshop lasts one to two hours. This event can be organized in cellars or in a prestigious room. It is suitable for groups of 10 to 100 people.
Still in this world, the Bordeaux Label agency, specializing in seminars in the South-West, has designed a role-playing game called "Vinopoly". Participants, gathered in teams of twelve, take the place of a director of a Bordeaux château. During this activity, they will have to establish a commercial strategy. Then they will have to assemble their wine themselves and create their label. At the end of the game, each participant will receive a 19.5 cl sample of the cuvée they have produced. The event, for groups of 20 to 80 people, is organized within a wine estate, a classified Grand Cru of Bordeaux: for example Château Kirwan, or Château d'Agassac.
"In the field of extreme sports, skydiving, very fashionable in the 90s, is no longer so suitable for team building," estimates Arnaud Doin, director of the Stratevent agency. It is still possible to allow your employees to experience the sensations of free fall. The Stratevent agency has developed the "Stimulation Xtrem" event, during which participants discover the pleasure of evolving in the air in complete safety. After a briefing, they are equipped to enter a simulator where powerful air turbines lift them from the ground. They are supervised at all times by professionals. The indoor free fall session lasts about ten minutes, the event between 1h30 and 2 hours. It is practiced in the Paris region. "Stimulation Xtrem" is well suited to groups of fifteen to twenty people maximum, as only three people can be in the turbine at the same time.
Another possibility: parasailing. The company Arthaud Yachting based in Cap d'Antibes, specializing in nautical seminars, offers this activity on the Riviera, between Monaco and Saint-Raphaël, as part of regattas. This activity is accessible to everyone and offers magnificent panoramas of the coastline.
Among the classics of team building activities above ground, there are treetop courses. The agencies Europe Evénements, Top Fun or Ludimus offer them in their catalogue. It is also possible to practice this discipline in theme parks: "Davy Crockett Adventure" at Disneyland Resort Paris, or "the Adventure Course" in Center Parcs resorts. Less well-known, the Accrobaobab park, 65 km from Dakar, in Senegal, offers courses set up among baobabs in the bush. This park is a subsidiary of the French company ADS, specializing in difficult or high-altitude access work. "In terms of safety, the structures have been built with equipment imported from France and according to national safety standards," underlines Erik Jouet, director of ADS. "The park's supervisory staff has also been trained by approved technicians." Several activities are offered: an adventure course, climbing a baobab or a zip line with a 25-meter high start. The park can accommodate groups of up to 80 people and can be privatized. All that remains is to finance the trip to Dakar!
