Where do you stand on the salary scale?

ReKrute has just conducted a major survey on salary levels in Morocco. These figures give a real picture of the salaries of the Moroccan workforce, data which is normally very difficult to find. The survey was conducted on a sample of 1287 people. The profile of the respondents is as follows: Nearly 51% of respondents are between 26 and 35 years old, with a majority of men (64% men vs. 36% women).

It should also be noted that 53% of respondents are managers, and 41% are employees. 18% of those surveyed report having a salary between 4000 Dhs and 6000 Dhs net/month, 15% earn between 6000 dhs and 8,000 dhs net/month and finally the range of 10,000 dhs and 15,000 dhs net/month. The survey also highlights the evolution of salaries between 2014 and 2015: it appears that 37% of Moroccans received a salary increase between 2014 and 2015, 48% saw their salary increase by 0% to 4%. 28% of Moroccans (among the population that experienced an increase between 2014 and 2015) saw their salary increase by a rate of between 5% and 9%. Among the population that received a salary increase between 2014 and 2015, 12% experienced an increase between 10% and 14%. This clearly demonstrates that despite very unstable economic activity, salaries have seen a positive evolution.

Power Point Presentation

1. Would age and gender impact salary?

The category considered to be the most active (26-35 years old) is the one that has the most diversity in terms of salaries: it includes both high and average salaries, without having pronounced salary disparities. The majority of people in this range receive average salaries: few people have a salary of 25000 Dhs net/month or more in this age category. 56% of Moroccans who receive between 25000 Dhs and 35000 Dhs net/month are between 36 and 45 years old. 50% of respondents with a salary of more than 40000 Dhs net/month are between 36 and 45 years old and finally, 29% of people receiving a salary of more than 40000 Dhs net/month are between 46 and 55 years old. These figures suggest that age is a variable taken into account in remuneration, as it is often synonymous with experience.

Older people therefore receive a higher salary than younger people. However, after 45 years of age, salaries begin to fall. Therefore, beyond this age, popularity in the job market decreases, which is necessarily due to the decrease in productivity. Only 1% of women receive a salary between 30000 Dhs and 40000 Dhs net/month, while 4.5% of men have a salary in this range. 4% of Moroccans receiving a salary between 25000 Dhs and 30000 Dhs net/month are men, compared to only 2% of women. It is noted that inequalities between men and women in terms of remuneration are still present. Despite the evolution of society and mentalities, equity does not seem to be a current issue.

2. Salary and level of education

16% of Moroccans who have completed all their studies abroad receive a salary of more than 40000 Dhs net/month; 16% have a salary between 20000 and 25000 Dhs net/month. 21% of Moroccans who have studied in Morocco and then abroad receive a salary between 15000 Dhs and 20000 Dhs net/month, 18% have a salary between 10000 Dhs and 15000 Dhs net/month, and 18% receive a salary between 8000 Dhs and 10000 Dhs net/month.
