Job Interview: Unleash Your Inner Salesperson

You're not a salesperson at heart? You'll still need to use all your skills to sell yourself during a job interview. StepStone helps you adopt the right behavior and attitude. To put you in the best possible condition…

Self-Confidence

You must start by believing in yourself and appearing confident. Easier said than done? Think about your qualities and your motivation. Practice in front of a mirror if necessary. You must appear relaxed and professional.

Friendliness
Politeness starts with punctuality. Never be late for a job interview. Allow plenty of time for travel, even arriving early and waiting half an hour. Once there, be polite and friendly. For example, say "Good morning, Mr. X" rather than "Good morning."

Body Language

Your body language speaks volumes about your personality. Adopt an open posture, avoid crossing your arms or fidgeting with your hands. Similarly, give a firm handshake – without exaggerating – rather than a limp one. And above all, dare to look at the recruiter, because eye contact is essential. A smile can also work wonders, never forget it! It attracts sympathy…

Empathy
Put yourself in the recruiter's shoes and think about what they would like to hear, what would convince them to hire you. This should help you choose relevant arguments. Also remember to illustrate your arguments with concrete examples to demonstrate your qualities.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Think about at least three strengths and three weaknesses. Regarding your weaknesses, know that they can all hide a strength. You must be aware of this and have found, before the interview, the positive aspect of each of your weaknesses. Are you too perfectionistic? This also means that you get to the bottom of things and leave nothing to chance…

Spontaneity

Don't play a role that doesn't suit you. You must remain yourself, never losing sight of your objective: to convince and charm the person in front of you. Openness, spontaneity and honesty are therefore key elements.
