Avoid Procrastination in 4 Lessons

Procrastinate, feminine noun, from the Latin procrastinatio, postponement, from cras, tomorrow, in other words "tendency to defer, to postpone action until tomorrow". This is more or less what we do when a task seems too difficult, for one or more reason(s), the problem being that the best way to complicate an action is to continue to postpone it.
Procrastination is thus awarded the prize for the worst professional habits, which must absolutely be lost in order to achieve one's goals and keep one's commitments.
How to overcome this harmful habit and regain control of your life?
1. Delegate, hire.
And why not block a few hours to contact the right people to do what you've been putting off for so long? Dare to either do it, or have it done, but get it done!
And remember that the longer you delay the action, the less easy it will be to implement.
2. Take small steps to make a giant leap.
A famous Chinese proverb reminds us that "a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." So take that first small step that will give you the confidence you need to take the next ones. Move step by step, small project by small project, but move forward. And don't look ahead. Just be satisfied with what you have already accomplished.
Set dates and deadlines and stick to them. This will allow you to increase both your motivation and your self-confidence. The frame supports the canvas, it's well known...
3. Announce to be forced.
Since we respect our commitments to others much more than to ourselves, don't hesitate to make your intention public. This will force your proud ego to keep its promise and to do, without postponing. As vicious as this self-to-self method may be, it is proven.
4. Talk to yourself.
One of the most basic tricks to avoid procrastination is to talk to yourself, to communicate with yourself to convince yourself. Dare to talk to yourself, out loud, reason with yourself and discuss with yourself. This will create a dialogue like this which, as crazy as it may seem, will help you accomplish the necessary:
"Does this need to be done, finished, closed?
- Yes, it does.
- Will I have more desire and time to do it tomorrow?
- No, clearly not.
- So, I do it immediately and get rid of it and free myself and relieve myself definitively."
No longer postponing means regaining control of the simple elements of one's existence, it is being in harmony with one's demands and, indirectly, with oneself. It is essentially liberating and salvific.
Adopt the attitude of "I do it, right away" and you will quickly see that your personal efficiency, and therefore your radiance, will increase considerably. It is often these small "nothings" that radically change our perception of ourselves and our lives, whether professional or personal.
