Aerospace Industry: Two New Units Set Up in Tangier

The aerospace sector continues to grow, confirming the hopes placed in it. In fact, two new industrial units have been established in the Tangier Free Export Zone (TFZ). These are the MK Aero and Lelma factories, belonging to the French groups Mecachrome and Electrolyse.

They specialize in manufacturing basic parts for aerostructures and surface treatment and coating, notably for the aerospace sector. Inaugurated in the presence of the Minister of Industry Abdelkader Amara, and officials from the French groups Mecachrome and Electrolyse, the project leaders, these two industrial units work synergistically to offer a global and integrated solution ranging from manufacturing and assembly to surface treatment and coating using physicochemical methods.

Thus, MK Aero develops manual work for basic aerostructure parts such as finishing, assembly of associated special processes, and more recently, small and medium-sized machining. This makes Morocco, according to the ministry, the only country in North Africa to provide this type of production.

For the second factory, Lelma, which is the result of a joint venture between Mecachrome and Electrolyse, it implements its non-destructive testing processes (dye penetrant testing), surface treatments and coatings, and liquid painting using physicochemical methods.

"An industry, which until now belonged only to Europe, is now establishing itself in Morocco to develop there," noted the minister, who emphasizes that this choice proves that Morocco has increasingly qualified human resources and that the value chain allows companies to find growth drivers that allow them to optimize their production costs. In addition, it should be noted that the sector includes about one hundred aerospace manufacturers and achieves a turnover of more than 6 billion dirhams. It employs more than 7,000 people.
