Tunisia-Combating Youth Unemployment in the Maghreb: Accenture Donates $6 Million

Accenture (NYSE: ACN) and the Accenture Foundations have contributed six million dollars to the Education for Employment (EFE) initiative to support the launch of its Training for the Future program. This program offers online and in-class skills training to over 25,000 disadvantaged young people in Spain, Morocco, and Tunisia.

This contribution, which includes financial donations and volunteer services, will enable EFE and its local partners to secure employment for at least 3,800 of these young people.

The Training for the Future program brings together EFE's non-governmental affiliates to offer a customized skills-building program for specific job positions and identify employment opportunities for these young people.

The program, which will also be launched in Argentina, Brazil, and South Africa, will provide skills training to 37,000 disadvantaged youth worldwide. EFE will work directly with its local affiliates in Morocco and Tunisia and will mobilize its coordination resources and expertise to support local NGOs in other countries.

In Spain, EFE will launch the program with Caritas, the Spanish Red Cross, FSC Inserta (ONCE Foundation), the Secretariado Gitano Foundation, and the Tomillo Foundation.

Accenture's contribution is part of the company's corporate social responsibility initiative, Skills to Succeed, which helps over three million people worldwide develop the skills needed to get a job or start a business.

In 2013, Accenture helped EFE initiate a program similar to Training for the Future, which enabled over 140 disadvantaged young people—80% of program participants—to obtain jobs as computer programmers. Over 50 of these young people were offered jobs at Accenture.

"The gap between the content of training programs and the skills required in the job market remains a barrier to employment for many young people," explains Vicente Moreno, Accenture's director for Spain. "Thanks to Training for the Future, we will help EFE develop more relevant vocational training for these young people."

As part of its contribution, Accenture will provide local volunteer services to support the program's implementation in the six countries. These services will include project management and evaluation, with access to Accenture's proprietary digital training technology, to help these young people acquire non-technical skills such as communication, decision-making, and customer relations.
"In collaboration with Accenture, we have developed a more effective approach that not only expands the number of young people accessing training but also equips them with the skills required for specific jobs," says Aldo Olcese, president of Education for Employment in Europe. "The Training for the Future initiative allows us to strengthen the employability and job prospects of beneficiaries on both sides of the Mediterranean."
