The Final Stage of Recruitment: The Probationary Period

Too often, we forget that the probationary period is a phase of recruitment, even if it is the final stage.
It is up to you to prove that you are indeed the right person for this specific position.
Remember that this is a probationary period.

The probationary period is a trial period for everyone, a short period where the recruiter and the recruit will assess each other and decide whether or not they will continue their professional journey together.

The recruiter will try to see if their new recruit adapts and integrates, if they were right to think that the recruit would be able to successfully carry out certain tasks. The recruit, for their part, will try to discover as much as possible about their new environment, the company, their colleagues, and what is expected of their skills.

The fundamental advantage of this special period called the probationary period is that at any time, either party can withdraw and go their separate ways. If one of the two has made a mistake, they have a possible way out, and that is reassuring.

Look, observe, discover, swim…

To start successfully in this new professional life, it is essential that you know if this position, as you thought beforehand, suits you, if it meets and echoes what you want and know how to put into action. It is therefore wise to find out about the way your new company works and the real expectations related to your position. Find out what is expected of you and the positive needs of the company, ask your colleagues questions and read the information related to your work. This is the best way to adapt quickly and be at ease in your new role.

Go to your colleagues!

Of course, you are in this position for your technical and not human skills. However, take the time to reach out to others and not neglect the human factor, which is essential for fulfillment within the company. Introduce yourself to your colleagues as soon as possible, if your superior has not already done so. And remember that at the beginning of your journey –but also afterwards– your colleagues can indeed be a precious help, the best, to say the least. They will also help you to better understand and master your new company and its culture.
