Launch of the project for the rehabilitation of the traditional crafts sector in Gafsa “To restore the colors of Gafsa weaving”

On November 20, in Gafsa, a crucial event for the region was organized in the presence of the National Office of Handicrafts, the Chamber of Women Business Leaders (UTICA), the Office of Southern Development, the Higher Institute of Arts and Crafts, surrounded by the craftswomen dedicated to the project, members of the Gafsa South Development Association (ADGS) and the GIZ Employment Fund team to launch the project to rehabilitate traditional weaving in Gafsa.

It should be recalled that the mission of the ADGS is to enable women and young people to create income-generating activities through the promotion of micro-credits.

The weaving trades in Gafsa represent a cultural heritage 3000 years old. However, the sector has experienced a decline for several years due to the harsh working conditions of weaving and often discouraging low marketing prospects.

In response to this problem, the GIZ Employment Fund and the ADGS have implemented this sustainable project, which aims to improve the working conditions of about twenty craftswomen (future trainers) who will be trained in entrepreneurship and weaving techniques with the help of a mutual services company that will enhance and market their products.

In the presence of Messrs. Slaheddine Kaabachi, President of the ADGS, and Khaled Nsiri (GIZ), Chaieb Nejib Sabri presented a new model of loom before a series of constructive exchanges between the various actors of this day.
