Smart Tunisia to Provide 50,000 Jobs

The "Smart Tunisia" project, announced last June, aims to make our country even more attractive for knowledge industries. With a budget of 1400 million dinars, this project aims to set up economic databases and will provide 50,000 jobs over 5 years. This was announced by Mr. Mongi Marzoug, Minister of Information and Communication Technologies, this Tuesday, July 2.
The minister highlighted that during the year 2012, the information and communication technology (ICT) sector recorded a growth rate of 14% and its contribution to GDP reached 6.7%.
Mr. Marzoug also announced the creation of an advisory body responsible for overseeing the national digital strategy. He recalled that the public telecommunications operator Tunisie Telecom has expanded high-speed internet coverage by installing 17 new sites in the governorates of Medenine, Sidi Bouzid, Kasserine, Jendouba, Kef, Siliana, Gafsa and Kairouan.
Mongi Marzoug also stressed that his department's strategy aims to strengthen e-government and attract large exporting companies of digital services, in addition to encouraging creativity and innovation in the digital sector, and consolidating the use of digital content, particularly in tourism projects.
