Tunisia participates in WITFOR 2009

Tunisia is participating in the World Information Technology Forum (WITFOR 2009), its 4th session, taking place in Hanoi (Vietnam) from August 26-28, 2009. The theme is "Information Technologies for Sustainable Development".

The Forum, a unique tool for implementing the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Plan of Action, will bring together, according to organizers, 1500 participants (ICT educators, experts, and representatives from governmental and non-governmental associations) from 70 countries.

For developing countries, it will be an opportunity to explore and benefit from the latest advances and practical experiences in the ICT sector to overcome resource limitations through the innovative use of ICT tools.

On the occasion of this forum, Madame Leila Ben Ali, wife of the Head of State and President of the Arab Women's Organization, called in her speech "to intensify economic and cultural cooperation between Arab women and their counterparts in various regions of the world and to exploit new cutting-edge technologies in expanding communication networks between them, in order to develop this cooperation and strengthen women's ability to use these technologies, to consolidate their position and highlight their role in establishing a constructive civilizational dialogue between various societies and cultures."

Furthermore, this congress is held within the framework of monitoring the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals and international commitments defined in this area by the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) at its first and second stages in Geneva (2003) and Tunis (2005) respectively.

The 2009 World Information Technology Forum will be a good opportunity for exchanges on the applications of technology in various aspects of socio-economic life.

It also aims to promote the use of information and communication technologies as part of efforts to make the most of the results of the digital revolution that has taken place in our world over the past two decades.
