An agreement for cooperation between Tunisia and the International Labor Organization (ILO) was signed Tuesday in Gammarth, during the official launch of the PEJTUN project, "Decent Jobs for Tunisian Youth".
The document was signed by the Minister of Professional Training and Employment, Zied Laadhari, and the Director of the ILO office for the Maghreb countries, Mohamed Ali Deyahi, in the presence of representatives from the Tunisian General Labor Union (UGTT) and the Tunisian Union of Industry, Commerce, and Crafts (UTICA).
On this occasion, the coordinator of "PEJTUN," Michel Grégoire, stressed that this project aims primarily to offer more decent work opportunities to young women and men in the governorates of Béja, Jendouba, and Siliana.
It also aims to offer training adapted to the job market by providing young people with skills that improve their employability and to implement improved policies and services for youth employment. Spanning two years (from September 2014 to August 2016), this project, with a budget of three million dollars, will target 54,200 young people and 48 institutional beneficiaries, indicated Michel Grégoire.
For his part, Zied Laadhari welcomed the ambitious figures that this project aims to achieve, highlighting its importance in revitalizing the job market characterized by a "mismatch between the needs of employers and the qualifications of the workforce."
The "PEJTUN" project, he said, also helps to strengthen the government's national strategy for economic development, particularly in the regions.
Funded by the Danish International Development Agency and led by the Ministry of Professional Training and Employment, this project involves several partners, including the Ministry of Development and International Cooperation, the National Agency for Employment and Independent Work (ANETI), the UGTT, and the UTICA.
