Fawzia Talout Meknassi and Abdelkrim Aoaud. The first is a brilliant journalist-writer, the second is an expert in social economy and an associative activist. And between the two, the same goal: to highlight the genesis of Moroccan-made crafts. In this spirit, Fawzia Talout Meknassi and Abdelkrim Aoaud have just published a beautiful art book entitled "Secrets of the women artisans of Morocco".
Published by Marsam, this book brings together, in 240 pages written in Arabic, French and English, very beautiful creations made by artisans from all over the country. This beautiful book sheds light on the situation of crafts in Morocco, the shortcomings of the sector, and its achievements as well.
It aims to be an X-ray of this field which remains unknown, due to a lack of studies devoted to it. The two writers recall in "Secrets of the women artisans of Morocco" that crafts cover the four corners of the Kingdom, even in its most remote regions.
Craftsmanship is even presented as this strong and lasting link that unites the mountain ranges to the vast plains, the sand of the sea shores to that of the depths of the Saharan oases. The book also speaks of a sector which is, more than ever, a generator of jobs and income.
The sector employs three million people and indirectly supports 10 million Moroccans. This means that more than a third of the Moroccan population lives thanks to crafts. The book emphasizes that necessity remains the reason why the majority of Moroccan craftswomen invest themselves body and soul. "But current women's crafts are facing major problems that threaten their very existence and a loss of interest from the generation of girls for this knowledge," it is noted in the presentation of "Secrets of the women artisans of Morocco".
Faced with this, it is important today to reflect on ways to safeguard this wealth and to make it a real lever for sustainable development and the empowerment of Moroccan women. This is also what the two authors of "Secrets of women artisans in Morocco" would like.
