«Morocco shortlisted for the best offshoring destination trophy 2011-12»
Morocco has been shortlisted for the best offshoring destination trophy for the year 2011-12, awarded by the European Outsourcing Association (based in London), we learned Friday.
The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony taking place Wednesday at the Law Society headquarters in London. Morocco's shortlisting highlights the significant progress the Kingdom has made in offshoring, positioning it as one of the most promising destinations for this activity.
With 52,000 jobs and 7.6 billion dirhams in revenue at the end of 2011, the offshoring sector is now the most successful program among the sectoral policies of the Emergence Plan. These eloquent figures show that Morocco as a destination has gained maturity and confirm the Kingdom's regional leadership in this area.
The Moroccan offshoring market is currently five times larger than that of South Africa and three to four times larger than that of Tunisia or Egypt. Morocco also surpasses Turkey in this activity. Thanks to this progress, Morocco has attracted major players in the sector, such as IBM and Dell. The most influential economic intelligence firms in Great Britain have noted the attractiveness of Morocco as a destination.
Recently, the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) magazine highlighted the relevance of the strategy implemented by Morocco in this sector, noting that this strategy has begun to bear fruit, allowing the Kingdom to face increasingly fierce competition in the international market.
The offshoring strategy – led by MedZ Sourcing, a subsidiary of CDG Développement (Caisse de dépôt et de gestion) – has led to the development of integrated industrial parks, with 65 hectares dedicated to nearshoring activities and new technologies in the Casablanca metropolis and other cities such as Fes and Agadir, recalled FDI Magazine, noting that with an investment expected to reach one billion dollars over the next five years, MedZ Sourcing aims to develop and manage competitive zones offering companies efficient services and infrastructure.
According to the magazine, nearly 100 international companies have placed their trust in the Moroccan sector by setting up branches in Moroccan offshoring parks, which has fostered the creation of 20,000 jobs.
MedZ Sourcing is determined to consolidate this position, particularly through a promotion and marketing strategy with the ambition of making Morocco a true global destination.
