The PEAR project, led by the ATAC association in cooperation with GIZ, is reconciling young Tunisians with agricultural professions.
The governorate of Sidi Bouzid is a region rich in agricultural potential, but it suffers from a shortage of labor caused by the poor image of agricultural professions.
To revitalize the agricultural sector in this region, the Tunisian Association for Cultural Action (ATAC), in cooperation with GIZ through its "Fund for the Training and Promotion of Youth Employment in Tunisia", launched the PEAR project (Promotion of Agricultural Employment in Rural Areas) to promote and strengthen the attractiveness of agricultural employment among young people by raising awareness among these populations of the potential of professions related to agriculture.
At the beginning of July, three awareness days, organized in the Regueb Conference Room, allowed 152 young people (including 39 young girls) to familiarize themselves with three themes related to agriculture:
- organic farming
- composting and the recovery of wood from pruning operations
- the rational use of phytosanitary products
After these days, the organizers noted the satisfaction of the participants who were able to exchange practices and ideas with the trainers.
The theme of composting and that of the rational use of phytosanitary products were particularly interesting to young people who intervened massively in the debates and who expressed their wish to participate again in such training which they described as "enriching" for their professional future.
