The annual African Employment Conference will be held on February 16 and 17, 2015 in Casablanca, Morocco, the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM) announced Thursday in a statement.
"The International Labour Organization's Regional Director for Africa, Aeneas Chuma, has ensured the International Labour Organization's support for this meeting, which should be hosted by the CGEM in Casablanca on February 16 and 17, 2015," the DGEM said.
The announcement was made at a meeting organized by the International Organisation of Employers (IOE) and Business Africa, during which participants, including the CGEM, stressed the need to work together to develop a pact for employment in Africa.
The president of the CGEM's Employment and Social Relations Commission and the IOE's African Employers' Working Group on Employment and Employability, Jamal Belahrach, spoke of a "ticking time bomb" and highlighted the 10 recommendations of his working group to create sustainable employment, including measures to mobilize employers' organizations, trade unions and governments.
Employers' organizations have been called upon to become an important driving force, by strengthening their capacity to work with governments on developing employment policies and promoting the expression of skills needs, both qualitatively and quantitatively.
For their part, governments must put in place measures to create a business-friendly climate and strengthen investor confidence. They must also develop the capacity to launch sectoral strategies to stimulate growth and adapt legislation to changes in the employment market.
